Turnover and operative result rise to new record values
In 2007 the MAN Nutzfahrzeuge Group sold more than 100,000 trucks and buses for the first time in its history and achieved a record operative result for the third year in succession: it rose by 49 per cent in 2007 to € 1,039 million. The return on sales (ROS) increased from 8.0 to 10.0 per cent (+ 2 percentage points) and in the Truck Division alone by 11.3 per cent.
Turnover grew by 20 per cent to € 10.4 billion (2006: € 8.7 billion), the fifth record figure in a row. Here the Truck Division generated a turnover of € 9.0 billion (+ 25 per cent) with sales of 93,260 vehicles (2006: 79,822). At € 1.4 billion the turnover of the Bus Division was 6 per cent below the figure for the previous year (€ 1.5 billion). With a total of 7,349 complete buses and bus chassis, however, deliveries remained at the same level as last year (7,338 units). The Bus Division had to accept an operative loss of € 13 million.
In Europe MAN Nutzfahrzeuge managed to increase its market share for trucks over 6 tonnes by a further 0.2 percentage points to 16.1 per cent. On the bus side the European market share fell slightly to 14.7 per cent (2006: 15.0 per cent). In 2007 MAN generated about half of its total growth in truck sales in Eastern Europe and the Sales Region CIS. With the joint venture with Force Motors under the name of MAN FORCE TRUCKS Private Limited in Pithampur (India) MAN Nutzfahrzeuge is now represented in a further growth market. This year almost 7,000 trucks will be produced there, and by 2010 capacity is to be increased to about 24,000 vehicles.
The new TGX and TGS truck ranges launched in the autumn of last year are setting standards in terms of transport efficiency. They were voted "Truck of the Year 2008" by an international jury of trade journalists. Beside this TGX and TGS won the "red.dot: best of the best" international design prize. By the end of February 2008 orders for well over 35,000 TGX and TGS had already been received. MAN Nutzfahrzeuge is also investing heavily in its sales and service network. As last year, € 100 million is earmarked for this.
At the IAA Commercial Vehicles in September MAN will be presenting new engines with exhaust-gas recirculation (EGR) to meet the Euro V emissions standard; these need no additives or elaborate exhaust-gas cleaning. Thus, even in the year when the MAN Group is celebrating its 250th anniversary, MAN is still demonstrating its innovative prowess. In addition MAN is marking the 150th birthday of Rudolf Diesel, who as an engineer at MAN developed the world's first diesel engine.
MAN Nutzfahrzeuge has started off very well into the new fiscal year. For 2008 further growth is expected in unit sales, turnover and earnings.
